Perhaps you could find a state council member, city council, or other similar political figures for viewpoints to get their opinions and informed opinion on the topic. After all, when dealing with political issues, why not ask politicians.
Besides an interview you could also attend some sort of lecture on economics. Your economics professor might have some recommendations for that as well.
